Cooling Requirement Calculator

Convert an IT load into heat rejection, cooling tonnage, airflow CFM and direct-liquid-cooling loop sizing.

Direct liquid cooling share: 0%
Racks above ~20 kW generally need rear-door HX or DLC; HGX B300-class racks are typically 70–100% liquid.

Rules of thumb
  • Air cooling tops out around 20 kW/rack; rear-door heat exchangers reach ~40 kW.
  • Direct liquid cooling handles 80–130+ kW/rack (HGX B300 / GB200-class deployments).
  • Every kW of IT power is a kW of heat — cooling capacity must match facility load, not just IT load.
  • Design liquid loops for 15–20°F ΔT; higher ΔT lowers flow rate and pump energy.
